The event yesterday, "Reading WaƄkowicz with the Music of Chopin" (November 4, 2025), at the Witosa Community Centre turned out to be a great success, marking one of the most important elements of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Melchior WaƄkowicz High School in Katowice! The hall was filled to the last seat by the audience, which is an amazing success for the event.

The main point of the program was the multilingual reading of an excerpt from "La Fontaine's Carafe" by Melchior WaƄkowicz. Words flowed from the stage in as many as nine languages: Polish, English, German, French, Turkish, Spanish, Ukrainian, Korean, and Silesian, which perfectly highlighted the universal and international character of our school and literature. The excerpts were presented by our talented students, wonderfully supported by parents and teachers.

The exceptional and breathtaking musical accompaniment was provided by our alumni, the talented pianists:

  • Younghuan Zhong, this year's participant in the prestigious Chopin Competition.
  • Guanhzong Pan, a student at the Academy of Music in Kraków.

We thank Younghuan and Guanhzong – their masterful piano performance featuring Fryderyk Chopin's compositions graced the entire event, evoking enormous emotion and serving as a tribute to Polish culture.

The ceremony began with speeches by Headmistress Jolanta KaƂuĆŒa and Mr. Janusz WoĆșniak, the Polish High School coordinator. The event also garnered media attention – representatives of local newspapers, radio, and television were present, and we have already read about the event in the local edition of Gazeta Wyborcza.

Our heartfelt thanks go to:

  • Pianists Younghuan Zhong and Guanhzong Pan – for the emotions they shared with us! Thank you for being with us!
  • The Witosa Community Centre for professional preparation, technical support, and hospitality.
  • All involved teachers, especially Ms. Marta Skwarek, Ms. Monika PawƂowska, and Mr. Janusz WoĆșniak, for their effort, coordination, and dedication.
  • Everyone who read on stage – applause and huge cheers for your courage and wonderful interpretations!
  • Facebook groups that helped us reach a wider audience by sharing our post about the event.

Thank you all for your presence and for jointly celebrating the 25th Anniversary Jubilee!

We refer those interested to the issue of Gazeta Wyborcza, which published a report on the ceremony.
