Prywatne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Melchiora Wańkowicza

After weeks of competition, the jury of „Physics Seen By An Artist” contest – specialists in the field of physics and arts, such as physics and art teachers, representatives of Institute of Physics (University of Silesia) and of University of Fine Arts in Katowice – chose the winners and laureates. The contest was organized under the auspices of: the Institute of Physics (University of Silesia), Zbigniew Religa Foundation For the Development of Cardiac Surgery in Zabrze, University of Fine Arts in Katowice, and the Silesian Board of Education.

The scale of the contest was enormous. 108 schools applied for the contest, sending more than 500 works. The competition was divided into two age groups: 11-14 years old, and 15-19 years old. In each group, the works were additionally divided according to the technique: photography, collage, drawing and painting, and digital art. The final stage was held in the assembly hall of M. Wańkowicz Private High School on May 15th. Participants and laureates came to our school to take part in the celebration and to meet our Guests:

During the celebration, the authors of honorably mentioned works received diplomas, medals, and the Laureates were also awarded with figurines and Empik vouchers.

The teachers and guardians of the students were also awarded for their support.

Students of Complex of Silesian International Schools: Yong Huan Zhong oraz Xin Yue Qiu played a short piano concert during the celebration.

It must be mentioned that the contest was registered in the official calendar of events of the International Day of Light, May 16th, 2018 – a day after our contest. To celebrate that occasion, Professor Roman Wrzalik from the Institute of Physics of University of Silesia in Katowice delivered a lecture about light.

The celebration concluded with the exhibition of the best works.

Ms Marta Skwarek, the organizer and the creator of the contest, received many positive notes and opinions about the idea of the comptetition, and its organization.

The event was held by the Coordinator of High School, Mr Janusz Woźniak.
