On March 12th, 2019, Melchior Wańkowicz Private High School hosted the final stage of international 3rd Physics Contest In English, created and organized by Ms Marta Skwarek.

Once more, the contest raised a lot of interest among students and teachers, and was praised by the academic environment. 14 finalists were selected from over100 students of 7th, 8th, and 3rd middle school classes who took the written test on February 8th, 2019. The test in the initial stage contained questions concerning physics and was written in English.

The final part was an oral test. One of the finalists came to our school from Kiev, supported by his teacher. All finalists answered questions about physics in a contest which was a modified version of „15 to 1”. Questions and answers were formulated in English.

The Jury, supervised by the Headmistress, Ms Jolanta Kałuża, consisted of the following experts:

prof. dr hab. Jerzy Dajka  - the Director of the Institute of Physics at University of Silesia in Katowice

dr hab. Ewa Bogdanowska-Jakubowska, the Director of the Institute of Pragmatic Linguistics, Institute of English at University of Silesia

mgr Elżbieta Zapała from the Institute of Biophysics at Medical University in Zabrze

All participants presented their impressive knowledge. However, the winners were Michał Bainczyk, Jan Potaszynski, and Jan Śliwiński.

Thanks to Zhangu Enxu’s (2D-IB) performance, we could cherish a wonderful mini-piano concert.

Professor Jerzy Dajka presented a lecture on the following topic: "Quantum computing of DNA folding".

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the organization of 3rd Physics Contest In English, especially 0DP students.

The fact that young people are ambitious and not afraid to reach beyond the curriculum framework, and combine their knowledge in English with linguistic skills, is amazing!

Congratulations to all participants and their supervisors!

Please feel invited to participate in the next edition of Physics Contest In English.

mgr. Marta Skwarek
