Freedom Trip - the 30th anniversary of 4th of June elections
The second and final stage of the "Freedom Trip" was Gdańsk, specifically the European Solidarity Center and the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the first democratic elections from June 4, 1989. Our base was the Filip II building, strategically located between the ESC, the Main Railway Station and the Main Town. Our guide to this wonderful city was the grandson of the Polish President and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate - Mr. Lech Wałęsa - Tomasz Wałęsa. Thanks to him and Mr. Janusz Woźniak, we managed not only to reach the most interesting places, but also to participate in a private meeting with his grandfather, the Living Legend of Solidarity - President Lech Wałęsa.
But first, a tour of Gdańsk. Then on June 4, the celebrations during which we had the opportunity to meet the elitist and political elite - once engaged in democratic transformations - like Mr. Zbigniew Bujak - or representatives of free media and democratic opposition. The enormity of people, celebrations under the Shipyard Crosses, eye-to-eye meetings and wise words that fell on these occasions, a common photo of the Poles at Long Market - all this gives joy. It was a great honour to meet with the senior Polish teacher, a woman institution, at the same time extremely modest Ms Krystyna Starczewska.
ESC - a place that meant and means a lot to us. As young people, we touched the phenomenon which was (!) Solidarity - the ESC museum is a gem among Polish museums, it captivates, moves and makes you reflect. An obligatory place to visit.
