"Medical Robots" Conference - A meeting with science and passion
On Friday, December 7th, 2018, a group of our students with Mrs Marta Skwarek participated in a conference entitled "Medical Robots". The conference took place in Zabrze and was hosted by Professor Zbigniew Nawrat, the Director of the Institute of Heart Prostheses of Zbigniew Religa Foundation for the Development of Cardiac Surgery. Professor, the inventor of the Robin Heart cardiac surgery robot (the fist one in Poland and Europe), introduced the participants to robotics and its development in Poland.
The meeting began with a video conference showing radical prostatectomy using the da Vinci robot, conducted by Professor Vladimir Student from University Hospital in Olomouc. Then, a debate took place concerning the future of robotics and surgery in Poland, in which the greatest experts from numerous research centres from the entire country participated. Also, the progress connected with the construction of Robin Heart and the development of robots in other research centres was presented.
The conference was a great opportunity to merge passion with science. The students came back to school glad and satisfied. Our participation in the meeting perfectly fit into the project "Passion and Physics".
