National Turbolandeskunde contest – regional stage
On March 24th, a regional stage of the national Turbolandeskunde contest was organized in our high school in Katowice. 20 committees participated in the contest in the whole country. But our school hosted the largest number of teams – 28!
Our guests were greeted by the Headmistress, Ms Jolanta Kałuża, the organizer of the contest, Ms Małgorzata Bubik, and our special guest, Ms Elisabeth Venohr, PhD, a DAAD lecturer in the Institute of German of University of Silesia. We are very grateful for joining us on that special day.
Organizers divided the schools into three groups. Schools from Katowice and neighbouring areas were the first group, who started the contest at 9am; the second group started the contest at 10:3-am, and the third group struggled with the questions after the workshops, at 12:00pm.
While the second group stayed in the assembly hall, other groups participated in fascinating workshops about biology in Polish, biology in English, chemistry in Polish, and chemistry in English. Students could observe inspiring experiments and enjoy memorable moments in our lab classrooms. It must be stressed that not everyone could stand the pressure and some people had to leave their places for a while. For sure, everyone will remember the workshops for a long time!
While students struggled with the quiz and participated in workshops, teachers had a chance to listen to interesting lectures and participate in interesting exercises, applying the latest technologies. Ms Alicja Dróżdż, MA, prepared a lecture entitled “How to make ourselves at home in the digital world? Applying computer technology in teaching – practical hints.” Next, Ms Elisabeth Venohr, PhD, met with the teachers.
The quiz was conducted by the coordinator of Turbolandeskunde, Ms Grażyna Nierychło, MA.
