From September 14 to 19, the international project "Athens Brain Wars" took place in Greece, marking a successful joint initiative between the Melchior Wańkowicz High School in Katowice and the Athens Private School from Kyiv. This collaborative journey provided Polish and Ukrainian students with a unique platform for cultural integration and hands-on skill development.

The primary objective of the initiative was to cultivate key future competencies: entrepreneurship, creativity, teamwork, critical problem-solving, and effective intercultural communication.

Cross-Border Collaboration: From Concept to Scale Models

The project itinerary was designed to move learning beyond the traditional classroom. One of the core workshop modules involved simulating the full creation process of a theme amusement park. Mixed Polish-Ukrainian student teams navigated every phase — from initial business brainstorming and concept design to physically assembling detailed scale models.

Working in international sub-teams required students to constantly communicate in a shared foreign language, negotiate ideas, and distribute team roles effectively.

Real-World Entrepreneurship on the Streets of Thessaloniki

The ultimate test of negotiation skills and adaptability took place during an interactive city game in Thessaloniki. Teams were provided with a single paperclip as a starting item and were tasked with completing up to 10 consecutive trades with strangers on the street, acquiring an item of higher value with every step.

The activity challenged participants to overcome language barriers and apply persuasive communication skills in real time. Demonstrating remarkable resourcefulness, one Polish-Ukrainian group successfully traded their way up to obtaining two wristwatches by the end of the game.

Team Building, Grand Finale, and Certification

The intensive workshop schedule was balanced with structured leisure time along the Aegean coast. Shared beach activities and team-building games allowed students from Katowice and Kyiv to form lasting cross-border friendships.

The project concluded on Friday with an official closing ceremony. The jury evaluated the completed scale models and project pitches, presenting the championship trophy to the winning team. All participants received official certificates of completion alongside commemorative gifts.

This joint venture highlighted the immense potential of international educational partnerships and practical, project-based learning.
