A walk through Chorzów land of physics
On Monday, March 20th, thanks to Ms Marta Skwarek, we had the honour to host Professor Alicja Ratuszna in our high school.
Ms Ratuszna works at the Department of Physics of University of Silesia in Katowice. For many years, she was the dean of the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry of University of Silesia. She actively participates in numerous conferences, both national and international, and is the co-author of 4 patent applications and 2 patents concerning delivering and administrating therapeutic substances which belong to the group named "chinolinotiosemikarbazon" (in cooperation with Professor J. Polański's research team). Moreover, she has published more than 100 scientific articles.
During the meeting, the Professor took us for a walk through "Chorzów land of physics". Our high school students could familiarize themselves with interesting and diverse scientific and didactic actions offered by the Department of Physics, both in Katowice and in Silesian Interuniversity Centre of Education and Interdisciplinary Studies in Chorzów.
The second part of the meeting was purely scientific. The Professor gave a lecture about photodynamic PDT method and the applied photosensitizers. The lecture, even though difficult for some, raised the bar in terms of education and enriched the knowledge of numerous students (and, of course, teachers).
