Project "Beehives for Katowice"
The "Beehives for Katowice" project was initiated by a team of students from class 2 LO in response to the threat to the bee population. Their activities focus on education and public awareness about the role of bees in the ecosystem and the challenges beekeepers face. As part of the project, the students invited a hobby beekeeper, Mr. Marcin Kasperek, to a meeting that took place on April 25 in the auditorium of our school.
During this event, participants had the opportunity to learn more about the role of bees in the ecosystem and learn about the beekeeper's work schedule throughout the year. The "Beehives for Katowice" project puts emphasis on understanding and protecting these vital organisms whose populations are threatened for various reasons, such as environmental changes, the use of pesticides, habitat loss, and reduced availability of honey bees.
The interest in the topic definitely exceeded our expectations. The lecture was so interesting that there were many questions from the audience, including about the costs of such an interesting hobby. After the lecture, many students approached Mr. Marcin and individually asked about aspects of bee care, and looked closely at the presented hives, frames, and beekeeper's clothing.
We would like to thank Mr. Marcin himself for this meeting, but also the students who proposed this interesting topic.
