The Wańkowicz Oak: A Living Symbol of 25 Years and a Message for Future Generations
It is with immense joy and emotion that we announce the inauguration of a series of solemn ceremonies marking the 25th Anniversary of the Melchior Wańkowicz High School. These events are designed to be permanently etched into the history of our institution.
The focal point of the first celebration was the ceremonial planting of a symbolic oak tree on our school grounds. This tree, respectfully named the Wańkowicz Oak, is intended to stand as a vibrant monument to our achievements, our enduring educational mission, and our deep connection with the school’s patron. It serves as a symbolic bridge connecting a quarter-century of glorious tradition with the future, the foundations of which we lay every single day.
This momentous occasion was graced by the presence of distinguished members of our community: Principal Jolanta Kałuża, Vice-Principal Danuta Kałuża-Freyre, Ms. Monika Nizioł as representative of the Organising Committee, and the High School Coordinators: Mr. Janusz Woźniak (Polish program) and Ms. Justyna Proksza (IB program). Their presence underscored the unity and shared commitment to cultivating the values that guide our bilingual and international education.
The Time Capsule – Memory Enshrined in a Message
During the ceremony, a unique "time capsule" was buried beneath the roots of the Wańkowicz Oak. It represents our material testament and a profound message for future generations of students and teachers. Within its core, like a memory vault, we placed artifacts documenting the school's current life:
- Commemorative photographs capturing the dynamism of our international community.
- Poems and letters from students, written in various languages, serving as proof of the rapid and organic acquisition of the English language through mutual cultural exchange.
- A symbolic statuette, today’s local and national newspapers, and even this week’s cafeteria menu – reflecting our everyday life.
Just as the Wańkowicz Oak is destined to be a lasting legacy for the future, the capsule is our direct message, our story that will endure for years to come.
Commemorative Shots and the Next Chapter of the Jubilee
This historic moment was further enhanced by commemorative drone footage, capturing students forming the monumental letters MW on the sports field.
We wholeheartedly invite you now to the next, equally solemn act of our jubilee – the "Reading Wańkowicz" event, which will take place on November 5th at the Dom Kultury on Witosa. We dedicate this event to all Alumni, Parents, and the entire community of the Witosa Estate and Katowice, aspiring to celebrate this special time together. The ceremony will be distinguished by a masterful piano performance from our outstanding alumni who are currently pursuing higher education at music academies.
We invite you to view the photo gallery from this historic event!
